THIS RACE WILL NEVER END!

The 80th Run of Gazi Derby, which has been organised since 1927 in the memory of the Great Leader Atatürk, is won by  Mr. Kadri Daşkan’s HIZEL BEYI (TUR) (ch. h, by Red Bishop  x  Dandini)  with his Jockey  Halis KARATAŞ  in 2.27.60.

With this great victory, owner of HIZEL BEYI earned YTL 420.000 winning price plus entry fees and breeders premiums which totaled to YTL 614.000.  In the 2400 meters Turf race, which is open to Turkish bred and trained 3 y.o. Thoroughbreds can run only once in their career.  Mr. Özen Adalı’s   ANNOSH  was placed  second, Mr. Kemal Kurt’s  BORS   was placed third and  Mr. Hüseyin Türkaslan’s DR. LUCKY  was placed  fourth. Margins were Nose – Far - Neck.      

The prize money for the second was YTL 168.000, for the third YTL 84.000 and for the fourth was YTL 42.000.

Jockeys had a commemorative photo all together before the race.

PRESIDENT AHMET NECDET SEZER AND HER SPOUSE ATTENDED THE GAZİ DERBY

President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and his spouse honoured the Veliefendi racecourse by attending the 80th Gazi Derby and presenting the Trophy to the winning owner. President Sezer stated that the Turkish people have lived throughout their lives together with horses and on horseback for many centuries. He also stated that horseracing is a social need for modern societies.    

President Sezer presented the Gazi Derby Trophy and plates to the winning owner, trainer and jockey.

THIRD GAZİ DERBY WIN FOR HALİS KARATAŞ

Waiting in the last group until the end of the last turn, Karataş and Hizelbeyi then moved forward to catch the front runners.

Attacking strongly from the inside rail, Ertül Cankılıç and Annosh got the lead for a while then were beaten by Halis Karataş and Hizelbeyi who won the race by a nose with a magnificient effort and a very effective sprint very much like in their previous runs.    This is the third Gazi Derby Victory for Karataş who won the Derby again in 2005 with Popular Demand, also in 1996 with Bold Pilot.
