AUTHORIZED Representative SANTIAGO’s Triumph in Irish Derby

 

SANTIAGO (Authorized – Wadyhatta / Cape Cross) won the Irish Derby (G1) with his jockey Seamie Heffernan at the Curragh Racecourse on Saturday, 27 June. Irish Derby was the 3rd consecutive victory of the successful colt, which had 5 starts in its racing career.

Authorized, the sire of 2020 Irish Derby Champion Santiago, was purchased by the Jockey Club of Turkey this year, and is standing at the Club’s covering station in Izmit. Santiago is the 6th G1 winner of the successful stallion.

The first four of the Derby were all trained by Aidan O’Brien. TIGER MOTH (Galileo – Lesson In Humility / Mujadil) finished the Derby in second place and followed by DAWN PETROL (Galileo – Gwynn / Darshaan) and ORDER OF AUSTRALIA (Australia – Senta’s Dream / Danehill).

Authorized representative Santiago, owned by Coolmore Stud and trained by Aidan O’Brien, had its first two starts on 1400 meters at the Leopardstown and Galway Racecourses and finished both races in second place. His success at Listowel on 1600 meters on 12 September, was followed by the victory in Queen’s Vase (G2) on 2800 meters, at Royal Ascot after 281 day break.

Having the 14th winner of the Irish Derby with Authorized representative Santiago, the trainer Aidan O’Brien told RTE: "Santiago is a lovely, straightforward horse. He likes to take his time in his races and Seamus got a lovely run through and stayed very well"

MV Magnier of Coolmore told on a Zoom interview: “The Irish Derby is the pinnacle of Irish racing. It is a stallion-making race and many great champions have won it over the years.

Epsom Winner Authorized’s first classic winner Santiago is expected to run at the St Leger Stakes (G1), which is the last classic race of the year in UK.
