Legendary jockey Lester Piggott has sadly passed away

Lester Piggott, one of the greatest jockeys in the history of horse racing, has passed away at the age of 86.

Piggott rode his first winner in 1948 when just 12 years of age. Until 1995, he has won 30 British Classics which includes 9 Epsom Derby, 116 Royal Ascot wins and over 5300 races worldwide. He was the 11-time champion jockey.

Lester Piggott came to Turkey both in 1991 and 1993 for the International Racing Carnival. He won the International Topkapi Trophy with Lucky Guest in 1991 and came 2nd with him in the same race in 1993. He also rode Golden Hawk in 1993 International Bosphorus Cup and Sağanak in 1993 G1 Çanakkale Zaferi Stakes.
