The Champion Stallion Strike the Gold died.

On Tuesday 13th of December 2011, during a handwalking tour around of his paddock in Karacabey Stud Farm, Strike The Gold strumbled and fell down. The fall resulted in a fracture in his left front humerus and after being examined by a Committee of veterinarians, the decision has been taken that Strike the Gold was to be euthanized.
The Champion Stallion had battled laminitis for many years with an excellent hoof and limb care and by covering a limited number of mares, he had been giving service to Turkish breeding industry for about 12 years and he was still relatively in good health.

Strike the Gold, the winner of 1991 Kentucky Derby, had 227 winners out of 325 offsprings, until 14th of December 2011. He was a tremendously successful sire in Turkey, with total progeny earnings of more than $20.78 million. At the time of his death, he was the leading stallion in 2011 by far, with progeny earnings of more than $4.4 million.
 
Strike the Gold was born in 1988, had a successful racing career of about 3 years. He was retired to stud in 1993 with a record of 6-8-5 from 31 starts and earnings of $3,457,026.

His stud career started in the US in 1994 and he was purchased by the Jockey Club of Turkey in 1998. He was the son of  champion stallion Alydar from Native Dancer’s blood line and out of the stakes winner mare Majestic Gold. He won 6 races including Kentucky Derby, Pimlico Special Handicap, Nassau Handicap and Blue Grass Stakes.
 
His most succesful progenies are Klabin’s Gold, Yukon Strike, Striking Perfection in the US. and Sabırlı, Mummy’s Love, Tight End, Gold For Lady, Balcibin, The Rising, Arsenic, Aydemirhan, Betik, Moon Davon, Mr. Diablo and Nordic Delta are the most succesful offsprings of Strike the Gold in Turkey.
